Who needs another travel memoir about someone they don’t even know?

Not me!

I know that may seem hypocritical of what I have set up here, but give me a chance to explain myself… These posts are modified e-mails I sent home when I first started travelling overseas a little over three years ago. Although my activities vary in excitement, both as the participant and as a reader, it is not the crux of my blog.

You know the saying, ‘you can’t see the wood for the trees’? Well, it’s true. People have remarked on how brave I am. How much I have achieved. How jealous they are of my adventures. But the thing is, I didn’t do everything in one go. The hardest step was boarding the plane, but once I stepped off on the other side of the world, all my decisions were made on a day-to-day basis. It’s only when I look back that I see what appears to be massive leaps; whether that was from job to job, city to city, or even country to country. Overall, I have to admit that my life does sound impressive on paper. But life on the road comes with it’s own set of rules, problems and complexities.

And most importantly, it’s the journey, not the destination, which is the biggest learning curve. I’m interested in evaluating not what I did, but what happened to me along the way. And how I became ‘me’.

Buy the ticket, take the ride…
